Guards up as Lockdown Lowers: 9 Suspects Apprehended over 4 Days

Five Wanted Housebreakers arrested in the Upper Highway area, on Friday.


Five suspects were arrested in the Upper Highway area on Friday in a combined intelligence-driven operation between Blue Security and Hillcrest SAPS, according to one of Blue Security’s Tactical Ambassadors.
“Three of the suspects are linked to housebreakings in the Crestholme and Waterfall area. The remaining two men were arrested in connection with housebreaking incidents in the Molweni area,” the Tactical Ambassador said. Numerous stolen items were also recovered during the operation which was carried out by the Blue Security Tactical Team and Hillcrest SAPS members.
The suspects were detained at Hillcrest SAPS for further processing. “These arrests and recoveries were made possible because of vital information received, via the intelligence network, of the whereabouts of the suspects and stolen items,” the Tactical Ambassador said. “As more information is received so further arrests will be made. In this way Blue Security will continue to work with the community and police in the fight against crime,” he said.
In a separate incident on Friday evening, in Umbilo, a suspect was arrested after a housebreaking at a business premises. “A laptop and R40 000 in cash was stolen during the incident. It was established that entry was gained via the roof,” Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said. “A Blue Security reaction officer was patrolling the area when he encountered a suspect carrying a backpack. The stolen laptop was recovered on searching the bag. The man was immediately placed under arrest and handed over to Umbilo SAPS,” the spokesman said. “Further questioning on the whereabouts of the stolen cash revealed the location of another cash box which had allegedly been stolen in an earlier break-in. The missing cash was not recovered,” Mathios said. Investigations are continuing.

Suspect arrested after attempting o steal diesel from trucks in Umgeni Park, on Saturday.


On Saturday a man was arrested in connection with the attempted theft of diesel from trucks parked on a premises in Umgeni Park. “A Blue Security reaction officer had responded to a call out to the property. On arrival he found the suspect standing outside the gate swearing at the security guard onsite,” the Tactical Ambassador said. The suspect was arrested and handed over to members of Greenwood Park SAPS for further processing.
“On Monday morning one suspect was detained after an earlier housebreaking incident in Sarnia,” the spokesman said. “A Blue Security reaction officer had raced to the scene following an alarm activation in the home’s garage. During a subsequent patrol of the area two men were later spotted walking up Underwood Road,” Mathios said. “When confronted one suspect managed to evade being captured by backup while the second suspect was successfully detained. The arrested suspect was found carrying a black bag containing a mini hifi, speaker and extension cable,” he said.

A second bag which was dropped in the chase contained cleaning chemicals, a remote and a screwdriver. The suspect which got away was carrying a backpack with unknown items. “The men are linked to multiple housebreakings in the complex and most of the residents have opened cases in connection to the incidents,” Mathios said. Pinetown SAPS attended the scene and investigations are continuing.
Quick response by Blue Security to an alarm activation in Glenwood on Monday morning saw a housebreaking nipped in the bud and a suspect arrested. “The reaction officer arrived at the house to hear loud banging noises emanating from the property. While inspecting the site he observed a suspect emerge from a window security-gate. The door, security gate and window had all been damaged,” Mathios said. “Backup was called and the suspect was commanded to come out of the house and surrender. He was immediately arrested and handed over to Mayville SAPS. Nothing was taken during the incident,” he said.
