Armed Response

With the high rate of hijackings recently, the Overport Rising Sun shared these 9 tips from Greenwood Park SAPS communications officer, W/O Leon Audh, on how to minimise the risk of carjackings.
To minimise the risk of hijackings, one has to:
* Constantly be on the lookout for suspicious persons approaching you.
* Always check vehicle mirrors when approaching suspicious persons or vehicles.
* Do not wait in your vehicle when picking up people. Either get out and lock your car or drive around until they arrive.
* If confronted by hijackers, the idea is to survive the hijacking.
* Motorists need to accept the fact that before leaving their homes that they might lose their vehicle today, and that it’s okay. Cars can be replaced, but lives can not.
* Do not challenge hijackers.
* Do exactly as told by hijackers.
* Don’t make any sudden movements or try to reach for valuables or purse.
* If you have a baby in the back seat you need to inform the hijackers thereof as they might not have noticed it.
