Amanzimtoti Copper Thief Caught by Alert Armed Response Officer

A suspected copper thief was successfully apprehended and arrested by members of Blue Security on Tuesday morning in Amanzimtoti.
“The arrest occurred after reports were received of a housebreaking in the Adams Road area, Amanzimtoti, on Tuesday morning,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“Two suspects were seen fleeing the property and the alert was raised. It was later established that a small store room had been broken into and copper pipes had been removed,” Mathios said.
“One of the suspects had been observed jumping over a neighbouring electric fence in Adams Road. Blue Security units immediately escalated patrols in the area as more reports of a fence-hopper matching the suspect’s description were received from residents in a complex in nearby Fynn Road,” he said.
“A Blue Security armed response officer raced to the scene and a successful search located the suspect hiding under a tree,” he said. “The suspect was immediately arrested and later handed over to members of SAPS Amanzimtoti for further processing,” he said.
In a separate incident on Tuesday evening a resident was injured during an armed robbery in Malvern.
“Five armed intruders forced their way onto the property just after 6pm on Tuesday evening and began manhandling the victim whilst robbing her of jewellery items,” Mathios said.
“The suspects fled in an awaiting getaway vehicle after removing two TVs, three cellphones, two laptops and jewellery,” he said.
“Members of Malvern SAPS and paramedics attended the scene. The victim was treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident,” he said. “Investigations are continuing,” he said
