Stealing ATM’s is an escalating crime in South Africa.

What was supposed to be an ordinary day for shoppers in this store, turned out to be a life threatening experience after a group of armed men proceeded to steal an ATM in the Eastern Cape.
Last week Wednesday five armed men walked into a local grocery store in the town of Lady Vrere, immediately pulled out their weapons, frightening shoppers and causing the crowd to scatter.
In a matter of seconds of the gunmen walking in, shoppers fled to the back of the shop to protect themselves from the armed men.
After the shoppers scattered, the men proceeded to load the machine into the back of the vehicle they arrived in, jumped into the back of the bakkie and fled the scene.
