Armed Response

Armed robbers targeted business premises in Hillcrest and in the Durban CBD fleeing with cash, cellphones and other high end goods at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a large gang of ten armed men stormed into a shop in Smith Street and held up staff yesterday. “The gang held up staff at gunpoint and demanded cash, asking one of the managers to get the safe keys and open it for them,” Mathios said.
“They grabbed an undisclosed sum of cash from the safe as well as high value goods from the shop and robbed staff of their cellphones and jewellery before fleeing the scene,” Mathios said. “The staff were traumatised but no physical injuries were reported. It is unclear whether the suspects fled on foot or in a getaway vehicle,” Mathios said.
Durban Central SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
In Hillcrest on Friday two armed men held up a businessman at his place of work and robbed him of a firearm and R10 000 in cash. The robbery occurred at around 2.45pm. “The suspects arrived in a white Mazda 323 with tinted windows. Two suspects got out of the vehicle and robbed the businessman at gunpoint. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
