Armed robbers pose as painters

A gang of armed robbers posing as painters held up a security guard at a business premises in Westville last week.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said four armed men arrived at the business premises in Nelson Road at around 6am, in a light blue Toyota RunX. “The gang told the security guard at the gate that they were painters. As soon as he opened the gate two of the men pulled out firearms,” he said. “They then used a screw driver to force open the front door and fled with three computers and a television. There were no injuries reported.”
Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson advised business owners and residents to regularly remind employees and domestic staff of security procedures. As a further precaution they also need to ensure that any visitors were correctly identified before being allowed access onto the property.
“Criminals often pose as municipal employees and contractors to gain entry into homes and businesses. It is vital that people are vigilant and that domestic workers and staff insist on seeing contractors’ identity cards, even if the visitors arrive wearing branded uniforms,” he said.
