Armed robbers steal R35k as man returns from bank

An employee of a business in Devon Road, Pinetown was the latest victim to armed robbers who follow their targets from the bank. The victim withdrew R35 000 from a bank in Westville and returned to his workplace. As he entered the property he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked across the road. He proceeded to park on the side of the building and within seconds, three armed men stormed his car.

One suspect kicked out the passenger window as the other two forced the driver’s door open where the victim was seated. The robbers assaulted the victim while trying to gather all the cash and fled in a white VW POLO.

The owner of the business heard his employee scream for help, who then alerted Blue Security immediately and our reaction officer arrived within minutes.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson advises everyone to conduct as much of their banking online as possible, especially when dealing with larger sums of money.

This was the fourth incident reported in two weeks, where robbers follow their targets from banks. In the first incident a Kloof school maintenance manager was ambushed and tasered as he entered the property. Armed robbers then hit another Highway school staff member a couple days later at a Pinetown school as he returned from the bank. Last week a Westville resident was followed from the bank and held up at gunpoint.
