Armed Response

A gang of armed robbers held up an 89 year-old man in his home in Westville in the early hours of Friday morning.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the man woke up in his garden cottage in Pitlochry Road to find three men armed with knives standing next to his bed at around 4am. The men had forced open a window to gain entry into the cottage. “They tied him up and made him lie on the floor while ransacking his house. They took one of his bags, his wallet, a watch, a camera, a cellphone and food from the freezer and fled the scene,” he said. “Once the men had left he managed to break free and to go to his son-in-law in the main house for help. No injuries were reported.”
Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson advised residents to ensure their properties were secured with burglar bars and that external beams and alarms were switched on at night for an early warning system. “Ensuring that windows and doors are secured at night and that windows are fitted with point to point beams provides peace of mind that you will be alerted the moment an intruder attempts to break into your property,” Jackson said. “Having an early warning system buys precious time which enables you to lock yourself and your family in a ‘safe room’ such as a bedroom or bathroom from where you can call your security company and the police for help in an emergency.”
