Beach 101: How to keep valuables safe and worry less about thieves.
Don’t let the worry of your belongings being stolen from someone on a crowded shore stop you from visiting the beach this summer. Instead, read these 4 beach safety hacks to keep your valuables safer while you and your family enjoy the waves and sun rays.
4 Tips to keep your valuables safe at the beach:
1. Sit near the life guard stand. Think about it like this:
• A parking lot with a car guard vs a parking lot without car guard. Which one do you think will have more stolen vehicles?
• When there are burglar bars on windows vs no burglar bars on windows. Which one is going to be more of an open target?
• The life guard is a sense of security at the beach. If you’re sitting closer to the life guard, it can create the impression that your belongings are being guarded and thus, making your items less of a target.
2. Invest in a waterproof dry sack. These inexpensive yet efficient creations makes it possible for you to take your belongings with you while you swim. Head to Amazon and search “Waterproof dry bag” to get an idea of pricing. This is an item that we would recommend paying a little more to ensure you are purchasing a good quality waterproof dry sack.
3. Take turns at the beach site. Firstly, it is never a good idea to go to the beach alone. If you are going to the beach with a few people it is just smarter to always have someone guarding the beach site at all times.
4. Take the absolute minimum. Watches, wallets, kindles and multiple cellphones are unnecessary items to take with. One bank card from your wallet and a bit of cash is all you need, not your whole wallet. Swap the kindle for a magazine just for a day and only bring one cellphone with you.
Just think about all the fun you had at the beach as a child building sand castles, playing Frisbee or tag-you’re-it with your friends. Don’t forget about all the good times, rather make a family outing to the beach one of these upcoming weekends.
