Blue Security Successfully Apprehends Suspects in Durban

Blue Security successfully apprehended several suspects in Durban over the weekend.
A suspect, wanted for multiple crimes in greater Durban, was one of a number of successful arrests carried out by Blue Security this weekend.
“The man, in his early thirties, was wanted for various crimes ranging from housebreaking and theft, escaping lawful custody, assault with grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, possession of drugs and various other cases,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, the suspect had carried out his crimes in Greenwood Park, Umbilo and Glenwood and even as far afield as Grahamstown,” Mathios said.
“Blue Security shared information with its units, received from various informers, members of the Glenwood and Umbilo community and Umbilo SAPS, and a positive visual was noted by one of the officers a day later,” he said.
The suspect was subsequently arrested on the corner of Esther Roberts and Cromwell Roads by the Blue Security officer and Umbilo SAPS notified. The man was detained at Umbilo SAPS, all complainants summoned to the station and formal charges laid against him.
In a separate incident, a trespassing and fence-hopping suspect was successfully apprehended in Hillcrest on Saturday morning.
“An armed-response officer was following up on a report of a trespasser spotted on a property, when he saw a man matching the suspect’s description, fleeing in the direction of the railway line,” Mathios said.
“A short chase ensued and the suspect was successfully detained. The trespasser had initially gained access to the complainant’s home by scaling a picket fence and then proceeding to the neighbour’s yard which is under construction,” he said, “a screwdriver and pair of pliers were found in the suspect’s possession.
Nothing was stolen from the complainant’s property, but charges of trespassing were still laid against the suspect and he was handed over to Hillcrest SAPS for further processing.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a suspect was caught red-handed after breaking into a small Glenwood supermarket.
“A Blue Security unit had responded to an alert early on Sunday morning and apprehended the suspect whilst conducting an internal search with the shop-owner,” Mathios said.
The suspect was found hiding behind the cigarette shelf and a number of items retrieved which had already been packed by the suspect. These were found inside some crates and a black bin-bag lying behind the counter.
“Investigations are continuing,” said Mathios.
A small-business premises in the Windermere area was also the target of a break-and-entering suspect on Sunday morning.
The suspect had gained access to the property, which is currently under renovation, by removing a portion of electric fencing and wedging open a toilet window.
A Blue Security officer apprehended the suspect who had removed a kettle and sanitizer stand from the premises.
