Armed Response

A staff member was held at gunpoint in an early-morning armed robbery in Pinetown, on Friday morning.
“It was all thanks to the alert and quick-thinking receptionist that she was able to shepherd herself and some colleagues into a back office, out of danger, and call our Control Centre,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The incident began just before 7am, when the security-conscious receptionist observed two suspicious-looking men approach the reception security door, posing as clients. Her suspicions proved correct as one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and they proceeded to force open the front security door. She had, by then, managed to alert her colleagues in the back office of the danger and was able to lock herself, and a colleague, in the furthest office and phone Blue Security,” he said.
“Meanwhile the suspects had entered the property and forced a male staff member, at gunpoint, to lie down on the floor,” he said.
“As soon as the control centre received the alert, multiple vehicles were dispatched to the scene. The suspects, though, had fled in a Mercedes just minutes after invading the premises. The pair took a handbag, cellphones, a CCTV DVR, and computer boxes from the office before making their getaway,” Mathios said.
“Thankfully no-one was harmed during the incident but trauma counselling has been arranged for the affected employees. Pinetown SAPS also arrived on scene and investigations are continuing into the incident,” he said.
In another incident later that morning, a domestic worker was held up at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Westville.
“The incident occurred while a domestic worker was busy in the house. Four armed suspects invaded the property and held up the victim with a handgun,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The four intruders forced the woman to lie on the floor and then covered her with a blanket whilst they proceeded to search the home for valuables,” Mathios said.
“The suspects fled on foot with a TV. Blue Security has escalated routine patrols in the area. SAPS have been notified and investigations are continuing,” he said.
