A ten year old rape victim will soon feel safe again after local security companies stepped in pledging to work together to secure her family’s home in Inchanga.
Blue Angels Charitable Trust, the corporate social responsibility division of Blue Security, and Alliance Fencing representatives, heard about the child’s plight and were immediately prompted to help the family. Blue Angels was established to assist victims of crime directly as well as  organisations that work to help crime victims.
Blue Angels trustee Darren Lategan said the owner of a local Facebook page, whose members had been collecting donations for the victim’s impoverished family, had alerted the trust to the plight of the child who had been raped, savagely stabbed 56 times and left for dead near a river.
“She miraculously managed to crawl up a long path back to the road where she was found. She spent six months in hospital recovering from her injuries,” he said. “But now she is faced with the trauma of criminals who have repeatedly broken into her family’s home making it difficult for her to sleep at night as she focuses on trying to recover psychologically from the nightmare ordeal.”
Lategan said Blue Security had arranged for a site visit to the family’s home and immediately decided to supply the family with a free alarm system, including external beams and an electric fence linked to the alarm. However, he said the home had also needed a perimeter fence and the security company had approached a local installer, Alliance Fencing, to ask if they could supply the fence. “We were thrilled when the company decided to join the charitable project by offering to donate the fence and free installation to the family. It’s wonderful that competitors in the security industry could work together for a common cause to impact the life this needy child to make her feel safe again,” he said.
Lategan said the donation would not have been possible without the generosity of the company’s clients and benefactors who had opened their hearts and wallets to give to the trust over the past few years. “We would like to thank every person who has donated to the trust so generously, which has allowed us to continually support victims of crime in their times of terrible trauma, to make a tangible difference and help them feel safe again in their homes and communities. We are also grateful to Damon Beard for airing the project on the Big Favour on East Coast Radio today,” he said.
