Brazen hijacking during Pinetown woman’s lunch break

Hijackers fired a shot as they fled from the scene of a brazen hijacking in Pinetown yesterday afternoon.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a woman was sitting in her car during her lunch break outside a business premises in Westmead when hijackers held her up at gunpoint. The incident occurred at around 2pm.
“The woman went to her vehicle during her lunch break and was chatting on the phone to a relative when two hijackers, one of them armed with a firearm, approached her,” Mathios said. “They grabbed a necklace she was wearing and pulled all her rings off her fingers before demanding her car key. The woman screamed for help and as someone rushed out of the business premises to assist her, the suspects fired a shot and sped off in her vehicle.”
Mathios said the woman’s handbag and cellphone was also stolen with the vehicle. “Fortunately no one was injured during the hijacking,” Mathios said.
Pinetown SAPS responded to the scene of the crime.
In a separate shooting incident in Westmead, one of our armed response officers came under fire when he foiled a business armed robbery recently.
