Armed Response

On a routine patrol, Blue Security Tactical Officers discovered a pile of burnt Telkom copper cables in Pine Road, a clear indication of cable theft and illegal scrap processing.
The burnt cables were immediately seized and handed over to SAPS Brighton Beach for investigation and evidence processing.
Incidents like this are part of a growing trend where criminals strip and burn stolen cable to remove insulation and sell the copper as scrap. Not only does this damage vital telecommunications infrastructure, but it also presents a serious safety and environmental hazard.
“Our teams are trained to look for signs of tampering or suspicious material along high-risk routes,” said a Blue Security representative. “Even when suspects are not present, recovering evidence helps build cases and disrupt criminal activity.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to report signs of illegal dumping, open fires near infrastructure, or groups tampering with overhead lines.
To report suspicious activity or burnt cable remnants, call our Control Centre at 031 717 5000.
