Armed Response

A Westmead, Pinetown business owner sustained a head injury after being stabbed by assailants during an attempted armed robbery on Friday morning.
“Blue Security control room despatched a response unit after being alerted to the incident which began when suspects, posing as clients, rushed the security gate where the business owner was talking to them,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
A scuffle ensued and one of the suspects produced a home-made knife.
“The business owner wrestled his attackers and managed to disarm one of them. In the pandemonium the business owner sustained a stab wound to his head as he tried to overpower his attackers,” Mathios said.
One of the suspects may have been injured in the scuffle before the gang ran to an awaiting getaway vehicle and fled the scene.
“Information received indicates that the suspects had been observing the premises prior to the incident. They only made their move after a Blue Security vehicle, which had been parked outside, drove away,” he said. The suspects’ vehicle could be seen driving past a few times before approaching the business’ gate.
Paramedics in the area at the time stopped to assist the injured business owner.
The only items taken were various remotes and keys. Pinetown SAPS, who had also been despatched to the scene, arrived a short while later.
A case of attempted armed robbery is being investigated.
