Celebrating Father’s Day in Durban

Father's day - Blue loves DurbanA wise man once said, “A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.” – Billy Graham. Dads are our modern day superheroes, so we dedicate one day every year to show them how much we appreciate everything they do for us. No ideas yet on how to spoil your dad this coming Father’s Day? Don’t worry, we have you covered!

It is well known that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not spoil him at one of our local favourites:

Start your day at the Big Easy Durban by Ernie Els – Celebrate Father’s Day enjoying a Jazz Brunch in the famous Ernie Els restaurant. There will be something to suit any taste and palate at the three buffet stations with only the freshest ingredients.

Have a Picnic at Makaranga – For the dads who love the outdoors, spoil them with a picnic in the magnificent Makaranga Gardens. Enjoy their authentic Japanese Garden with original bridges, walkways, stone lanterns and hand carved figures, all imported from Japan and set out according to ancient traditions. A sense of stillness and calm will fall on all the stressed fathers, while they enjoy the wonder and peace, while nibbling away on a specially packed picnic basket.

Enjoy a Seafood Braai at Ushaka – Spend some quality fun time with your dad at Ushaka Marine World. Fathers can enjoy a special discount for only R50 a combo ticket. Make sure you stop at the Anchor, situated at the Sea Animal Encounters Island in uShaka, and enjoy their special seafood braai with fresh hake, prawns, and calamari.

All aboard the Holiday Express – Dads will get a special surprise while they enjoy a day trip from Durban to Scottburgh on board the Holiday Express. Sit back and enjoy the 1.5 hours long train trip while you admire the breathtaking views of our beautiful coast.

The Durban Port Festival – Take a tour with dad on one of South Africa’s Navy ships, including the SAS PROTEA and SAS DRAKENSBERG. There will be something for everyone with tugboat rides, a careers exhibition focusing on maritime vocations, a special kids zone, live entertainment and an array of other waterside and landside activities. There will also be a craft market and food stalls where goodies can be purchased from local stallholders.

We wish all the fathers a Happy Father’s day!
