Armed Response

A Chatsworth couple hijacked were taken on a nightmare ride when armed men abducted them in their own vehicle last night.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the couple had dropped passengers off at their home in Dawnview Road when they were held at gunpoint.
Mathios said an armed response officer had responded to the scene at around 8.45pm. “A gang of hijackers arrived in a white VW Polo and held the couple up at gunpoint. The hijackers forced the passengers that were just dropped off onto the ground and hit one of them on the face with the butt of a firearm. The suspects then jumped into the couple’s vehicle and fled the scene, taking the couple with them,” Mathios said.
“The vehicle was fitted with a tracker. The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle and the couple in Umlazi Q Section. The police recovered the vehicle and the couple unharmed at around 9.28pm,” Mathios said.
SAPS Bayview attended the scene of the crime.
A quick-thinking Chatsworth man also had a narrow escape from hijackers when he was abducted earlier this year.
