Blue Security’s Community Guide To COVID-19 Lockdown

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has taken us all by storm, and for good reason, we were under the impression that pandemics were a thing of the past. With modern medicine and technology being as advanced as they are now, we couldn’t foresee the tragedy that would hit planet Earth and render the world speechless.
Active community members can’t help but feel like they have their hands tied since Neighbourhood Watches were deemed nonessential during the COVID-19 lockdown. We, at Blue Security, understand the building frustration and would like to assist where we can. So, for your safety and quick reference, we have a few guidelines for active community members on what the parameters are and what you can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within your community.

Preventative Community Measures – Work Your Way From Inside Your Home, Outward

⦁ Ensure that you are safe, before trying to help someone else. Not only will that stop you from contracting the virus, but it will also ensure that they will be helped rather than harmed by your assistance. It’s exactly what air hostess refer to when they say, “before you assist others, always put your oxygen mask on first”. Essentially, it refers to the fact that you can’t help anyone if you pass out! So, wear a mask and gloves if you can, and keep washing those hands.
⦁ Keep strangers outside your front gate. You don’t know what their hygiene routine has been and who they have come into contact with since the outbreak of COVID-19. This will also further help you control the environment in your home.
⦁ Report any suspicious persons who may be loitering around your area to your security company or to SAPS.  All individuals are to be on lockdown unless going out for a permitted reason. This will assist in preventing the spread of the virus within your community.
It is important to have a preventative plan in place so all members of your home and community are on the same page and following standardised procedures. For more information on a Home and Community Plan, visit the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention website.

How To Create a Self-Quarantine/Isolation Space at Home?

If you are reasonably suspicious that you have contracted the virus – maybe after finding out that someone at your office had it, or you came into contact with someone who coughed – then you should self-quarantine according to the guidelines below.
⦁ Don’t leave your house unless absolutely necessary
⦁ Wash your hands often
⦁ Don’t share your belongings
⦁ Disinfect commonly touched surfaces every day
⦁ Monitor your symptoms
⦁ Use a medicine delivery service or call ahead before seeing your doctor
⦁ Separate yourself from the people and pets you share your home with
If you start to exhibit symptoms such as a fever or dry cough, then you need to get diagnosed soon. Just ensure that you call ahead of your appointment and let your doctor know about the symptoms and possible exposure to the virus. They will then advise you further on what to do.
This is where self-isolation is crucial to ensuring that the people you come into contact with are not infected. For more information on self-quarantine and self-isolation, go The Independent website.

What You CAN Do In The Case Of An Emergency?

Private security companies have been deemed essential services and are mobile during the COVID-2019 lockdown period. This means that Blue Security will be responding to alarms and calls that come in from our clients, as per normal.
We understand that sometimes, during an emergency it is difficult to remember what to do or who to call. That is why Blue Security has endeavoured to make handling emergencies as simple as possible for our clients. We have partnered with different emergency services and our control centre will assist with calling the relevant service based on the nature of your reported emergency. So, report any suspicious behaviour, emergencies or incidents to our control centre on 031 717 5000.

To further ensure that we have keen eyes and sharp ears on the ground in and around your community, we have launched a crime intelligence network called the Community Command Centre. The Blue Security Community Command Centre (CCC) collects all the information it receives from our control centre, our Tactical Units, our vast Armed Response Force, IMC Controllers, CCTV cameras, ANPR alerts, vigilant clients, Neighbourhood Watch WhatsApp groups, SAPS, and other private informants. All this intelligence is securely circulated in real-time to ensure fast, immediate and appropriate response to incidents in our communities.

Our response officers are now, not only armed with guns but also with hand sanitiser, masks and gloves and have been briefed on strict social distancing policies. So, you can rest assured that you are in good, clean hands.
