Armed Response

Staff were left shaken, but fortunately unhurt, after being held up in an armed robbery which took place on Thursday morning at business premises off Sydney Road, Congella in downtown Durban. This follows an incident occurring earlier in the week, in which a Sydney Road security guard sustained serious stab wounds when two men attempted to rob him of his cellphone.
“The incident occurred while staff were busy loading a vehicle with equipment and stock in readiness for the day’s deliveries,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios. “The employees were accosted by three suspects while a fourth one remained in the getaway vehicle. One of the suspects produced a firearm and forced everyone back into the office,” he said.
“The suspects then proceeded to another office and emerged with an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellphone and the keys to a luxury vehicle. The gang made their escape in the awaiting getaway vehicle,” Mathios said.
“No shots were fired in the incident and no-one was injured. Blue Security Tactical Team members arrived at the scene a short while later but the suspects had already fled. Armed response officers remained at the scene until SAPS arrived,” he said. Investigations are continuing.
