Copper pipe thief caught red-handed in Hillcrest

A Blue Security armed response officer caught a copper pipe thief red-handed in Hillcrest this morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the officer responded to the scene in Homestead Avenue when a neighbour sounded the alarm at about 8:20am.
“The neighbour spotted the thief stripping the property of copper pipes and contacted our control centre. Our officer jumped over the fence into the property and pounced on the surprised thief, who had already removed several copper pipes and placed them in a pile. He was arrested and handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS at the scene of the crime,” Mathios said.
In a separate incident, another suspect was apprehended in Hillcrest yesterday for stealing NGO food donations from a local supermarket.
