Armed Response

Blue Security apprehended a copper-pipe theft suspect in the Essenwood area of Durban, on Monday.
“After responding to an alarm activation onsite our officer was fortunate to get a good description of the suspect from an eyewitness. A brief search of the surrounding area proved successful when he spotted and detained the man,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
The suspect had allegedly ripped off the copper pipes and water meter from outside the premises. He was subsequently handed over to an attending member of Berea SAPS.
In a separate incident, reaction units rushed to a property in Escombe after a neighbour called the Blue Security Control Room to report a home invasion at her neighbour’s home.
“The neighbour had heard calls for help coming from the property. When she went to investigate she discovered that the residents had been locked inside one of the bedrooms by intruders,” Mathios said.
It was established that two knife-wielding trespassers had gained access to the property by jumping over a rear wall. They then forced open the burglar bars of a back window and entered the house.
“The suspects confronted the family and forced them into a bedroom at knifepoint where they locked them in, before ransacking the house,” he said.
The intruders later fled with a laptop, two cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victims were lucky to escape unharmed. The house robbery is currently under investigation.
