Blue Security Press Releases

Criminals active in the Durban North area

Blue Security Managing Director, Henk Van Bemmelen said two businesses in Marseilles Crescent in Briardene had been burgled within days of each other indicating that a gang was possibly operating on the Durban North area.
“During both incidents the burglars broke into the properties through the roof at around midnight and in the first case the burglars ransacked the office before fleeing the scene with five computers. It was unclear what was taken during the latest incident on Saturday,” he said. Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene of both crimes.
Van Bemmelen advised business owners to install passive infrared (PIR) sensors in the roof of their business premises for an early warning system. “Housebreakers are regularly entering properties via the roof, especially business premises, so it’s important to ensure that your premises is adequately covered with sufficient intruder detection security devices. It’s also important to test every zone in your alarm system regularly to ensure it is always working optimally,” he said.
Van Bemmelen said a business premises in River Horse Close was also burgled on Thursday in broad daylight. “Burglars cut the perimeter fence and fled with various equipment that had been stored in the yard,” he said. He said trespassers had also been detected on properties in Glen Eagles Drive in Durban North, after an intruder tampered with the sliding door on a property at 8.06am on Friday.
“Trespassers were also active in Old Mill Way as residents spotted an intruder fence hopping in two separate incidents in the early hours of the morning on Saturday,” he said.
Van Bemmelen added that a home was burgled in Monteith Place at 10.48am on Thursday after housebreakers forced open the driveway gate and front door to gain entry before ransacking the property. Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
