Armed Response

A truck driver was shot during an armed robbery when a gang followed him from the bank back to a business premises in Jacobs last week.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the incident was the latest in a string of armed robberies across the city where robbers had targeted business people, school staff and residents while going about their banking routines.
“The truck driver went to the bank to draw money and was followed back to a business premises in Paisley Road, where a gang of three robbers held him up at gunpoint at the gate,” he said. “They robbed him of his cellphone and keys. When he threw the cash onto the property, near the on-site security guard, one of the robbers shot him in the leg. They then held up the security guard, took the cash and fled the scene. Netcare 911 paramedics attended the scene and transported the truck driver in a stable condition to a nearby hospital.”
Brighton Beach SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson advised bank customers to vary their routines, visit the bank at different times, and to change travelling routes to and from the bank. “Criminals often stake out their victims before striking, so varying your routine can help to prevent becoming a target. Always take someone with you to help you keep a lookout, especially when you need to draw large sums of cash. If you sense that you are being followed, listen to your instincts and rather than take a chance, drive to the nearest police station and call your security company to investigate,” he said.
