Armed Response

Criminals targeted businesses across Durban over the weekend. Swift tracking and the combined detection skills of Blue Security and SAPS resulted in the recovery of a vehicle that had been stolen earlier during a Greyville business robbery on Saturday afternoon.
“The incident occurred when a Greyville business owner was robbed of a substantial amount of cash and a vehicle during an armed robbery on Saturday afternoon,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, “two armed suspects had entered the business premises, situated just off Umgeni Road, and proceeded to assault the business owner with a firearm,” Mathios said. The suspects fled in the business vehicle after removing a substantial amount of cash and five cellphones.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Intersite Avenue after the co-ordinates of the stolen vehicle were relayed to SAPS by a Blue Security unit. The stolen vehicle was handed over to its rightful owner and Sydenham SAPS who are continuing investigations in the case. The assaulted victim declined medical attention.
Criminals were active in at least two business premises in Briardene, just off Chris Hani Road on Sunday morning.
“A Blue Security unit had just completed a response to an alarm activation in Roadhouse Crescent, Briardene, when he noticed a number of SAPS vehicles at nearby business premises,” Mathios said, “further investigations revealed that an armed robbery had occurred shortly before. According to the staff members present a group of approximately six suspects had entered the premises between 10 am and 10.30 am under the pretext of wanting to buy goods,” he said, “the gang suddenly produced firearms and demanded cash. When staff members informed them that they were not in possession of any safe keys the suspects robbed the employees of their cellphones and whatever cash they had on them,” he said.
“They also removed approximately six TV’s and some microwave ovens from the storeroom and locked the two staff members in a back room before fleeing the store,” he said.
“Further intelligence received reveals that a grey vehicle, with no number plates, was seen in the area just before the gang struck,” he said.
