Durban Ice Arena: A Christmas movie night on ice for all!

When was the last time you can remember spending a night at the ice arena?
The Durban Ice Arena had its newest re-launch just two years ago and since the launch, there is so much more on offer!
This world class establishment has been viewed as one of Durban’s most iconic and historical recreational facilities. The main reason for this rating is due to the arena’s proximity and location near the Durban golden mile, amongst our beautiful beaches, hotels, landmarks and many other attractions for locals as well as tourists. So, whether you were/are a regular on the ice or have only ever seen ice in your freezer or in your wine glass, join the big movie night happening this evening and watch the festive movie A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey, while skating the night away!
The Durban Ice Arena offers so much more than you could ever imagine. From casual weekend skate sessions to Friday night discos, birthday party packages for all ages, dinners on ice (as well as proposals), skating movie nights, fun and educational school excursions, figure skating shows, a 7m high rock climbing wall and my favourite, corporate team building. Imagine going to the ice rink and just watching all of your colleagues slip and slide all over the place – potentially even your boss!
As mentioned above, the educational program is probably one of the most fun science lessons you could experience out of the classroom. The educational experience takes the children through a guided tour of the facilities as well as the process of how ice is formed, how the surface of the ice rink is kept from melting, an ice skating lesson followed by an ice skating session. What a way to spend a hot summer day rather than being crammed up in a stiff classroom! Also, the rock climbing wall is located on the side of the big screen, not on the ice. For only R20, you can turn your ice skating adventure into a rocky ride up the face of the arena’s rock wall.

Durban Ice Arena: important info to take into consideration:

• Unfortunately, no children under the age of 4 are permitted to skate.
• If you forget to bring socks they have a shop chock full of them.
• There are lockers available at the ice rink in order for you to store your belongings.
• No food is allowed into the arena, there is a little shop inside. Alternatively, you can phone in a few days before your session and book a platter for you and your crew.

Available shoe sizes:

• Children: 9-2
• Adults: 3-13
• If you have your own skates feel free to bring them along

Tips on what to wear at the Durban Ice Arena:

• Wear gloves to keep your hands warm, maybe even a beanie to cover your ears from getting chilly.
• Long pants such as denims or track pants. The comfier you are, the better your movement will be.
• Wear a long sleeved top as well as a jersey. You will start getting hotter the longer you skate, so wear layers to plan ahead for this.
• Thick long socks are a must as it is very easy to get blisters from ice skating. Also, if you wear two pairs of socks there is much less chance of getting blisters, as the two socks rub against each other causing a type of friction rather than the one sock rubbing against your foot, creating the blister.
So, join in on some pre-Christmas festivities tonight, the 19th of December, from 19:00 til 22:00. Bring the kids, dress up to fit the festive season and have an unforgettable evening full of slipping and sliding across the ice.
