Armed Response

Gatecrashers targeted properties in Durban North over the weekend fleeing with televisions, computers and other valuables.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said two incidents were reported to the company on Saturday evening with the first reported just before 6pm in Windsor Drive. “Housebreakers forced open the driveway gate, the security gate and front door to gain access into the property. They fled with a flat screen television, a computer, jewellery and other electronic equipment,” he said.
Jackson said the second incident was reported in Carlisle Crescent about ten minutes later. “Housebreakers driving a white BMW gatecrashed the property and then forced open the security gate and front door. A laptop and two flat screen televisions were reported stolen,” he said. Jackson advised residents to install a cost effective anti-gatecrashing kit that can be linked to a home alarm for an early warning system against anyone who tries to tamper with the gate.
“It’s also advisable to fit an inexpensive metal ‘anti-lift’ bracket onto your gate to stop criminals from being able to lift the gate off the railing,” he said. Jackson added that gate motors should be installed as far away from the perimeter fence as possible to prevent criminals from reaching in to tamper with it.
Last night a woman was robbed in Durban North as she arrived at a property in Ennisdale Road. Jackson said the resident’s daughter had arrived at around 7pm to collect documents for her father when she was accosted by an unarmed man. “The robber snatched her hand bag, containing cash, and fled the scene,” he said. Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime.”
In a separate incident an armed response officer arrested two men who were having a fight outside a resident’s driveway in Rannoch Place at 9.51am yesterday. “When we made contact with the resident he advised us that one of the men had allegedly stolen his cellphone. Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime and took both suspects into custody.”
