Durban North crime review

Blue Security marketing manager Darren Lategan said the two latest incidents were reported yesterday in Holmpark Place and Belgrave Crescent.
“Residents in Holmpark Place went out to the shops yesterday and returned at lunch time to find their driveway gate had been derailed in broad daylight and their home burgled,” he said. “Burglars removed louver windows to gain entry into the house and fled with a laptop, an electronic tablet, a cellphone, jewellery and a pair of shoes.”
Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
He said residents in Belgrave Crescent had also reported an attempted housebreaking at 11.12am yesterday. “Burglars forced open a back window but fled from the property when the alarm was activated,” he said.
Lategan said another burglary was reported in Marine Avenue at 1.04pm on Tuesday. “Burglars forced open the gate and door and fled with cellphones and watches,” he said.
Lategan advised residents to always ensure that their home alarms were armed when the family was stepping out during the day as gangs were brazenly targeting homes during broad daylight. “Switching on your alarm before going out can be a chore, especially when you know you are only going out for a short time, but burglars only need two minutes to break in and grab your valuables so don’t be tempted to take a chance,” he said.
He added that an armed robbery was reported at 5.52am on Thursday at a business premises in Springfield Park. “A gang of armed robbers held up a security guard after jumping over the main gate and breaking the lock with a crowbar. They forced the security guard to lie on the floor and robbed him of his cellphone, a panic button and a gate remote. They fled in the company’s truck that was parked on the premises,” he said.
