Armed Response

A Blue Security armed response officer swooped on a fleeing Durban North housebreaker and recovered a bag full of valuables that had been stolen from the home of a well known Umhlanga pastor this afternoon.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an alert member of the public alerted the officer to a housebreaking in progress, whilst he was standing down filing a crime report regarding another incident in the neighbourhood.
The housebreaking occurred at a house in Belgrave Cresent at around 3pm. “The member of the public gave the officer a description of the suspect and the address of the housebreaking. Our officer immediately responded to the scene of the crime where he spotted the suspect who was behaving suspiciously, carrying a canvas bag, in Belgrave Crescent,” Mathios said.
“He stopped the suspect and asked him where he found several items that were in the bag, including a tent, a garden chair, garden shears and other garden tools used for cutting trees,” Mathios said. “The officer alerted the Durban North SAPS who responded to the scene within minutes. The resident arrived and identified the stolen items as his missing property.”
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody by the police at the scene.
