Virtual Know Your City: The Only Way to Tour Durban in 2020

Travel may be out, but virtual tours are in and by “in” we mean you can stay inside and still experience Durban – possibly in a way you were never able to before.
It’s no doubt that the travel industry has been one of the sectors hit hardest by the COVID pandemic. Many organisations in the travel, arts, and entertainment realms have had to close their doors to the public for the indefinite future. But as they say – “when one door closes, another opens” – a virtual one in this case.
Durban Tourism is opening a digital door to Durban, a chance to re-discover and re-connect with the city we love.
In a bid to keep Durban top-of-mind, the “Virtual Know Your City” campaign was launched on June 1st and will showcase all of which has made Durbs a destination of choice over the years. Digital visitors can virtually discover our greatest attractions, experiences, and tourist activities all through mainstream TV channels and Durban Tourism’s various social media platforms, including their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
Another branch of this campaign will be the very exciting “Influencer Virtual Tours” which will feature Durban’s foremost entertainers. These local stars will be live streaming on various digital platforms, taking viewers on a virtual excursion of all that our magnificent city has to offer and proudly sharing stories of the history and culture behind Durban’s ‘hidden gems’.
Viewing our remarkable flora and fauna, our enthralling aquatic experiences, and our unparalleled scenery certainly won’t be the same done through a screen. However, the hope is that these virtual tours will serve as a reminder of Durban’s greatest attractions and that when the gates open again to the “warmest place to be” that tourists will choose to experience a city so shrouded in beauty, heritage, and culture.
