Fatal Shooting Claims Life in Umhlatuzana
Following information received via the Tactical Command Centre, response teams attended to a reported shooting incident in the Umhlatuzana area. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the shooting had already taken place.
A white Toyota Corolla was found stationary on the roadway with its rear door open. One injured victim had fled the immediate scene and was later located inside a nearby residential property, where he was receiving medical attention from emergency services.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting occurred on the roadway after the victim exited the vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and fled on foot to seek safety within a nearby residence.
Further information gathered on scene indicated that the vehicle had been struck from behind by another vehicle. Following the collision, unknown suspects approached, and a firearm was discharged, striking the victim. The bullet passed through the victim and exited, further damaging the vehicle.
Emergency medical services were escalated, including an air ambulance response. The injured victim was stabilised and airlifted to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
It was later confirmed that the victim has succumbed to his injuries.
The cause and motive of the shooting remain unknown at this stage and are subject to further investigation by the South African Police Service, who attended the scene.
