Swift weekend action leads to arrest of five suspects across DurbanBlue Security armed response officers and quick thinking citizens arrested five suspects for crimes ranging from shoplifting and theft to robbery at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect was arrested after he was spotted trespassing on a property in Deborah Crescent in Everton, Gillitts at around 2.20pm on Saturday. “Our armed response officer arrived at the scene and the suspect jumped over the fence in an attempt to get away. Our officer gave chase and arrested the suspect in Horseshoe Road.”
Mathios said the suspect was in possession of a back bag containing a red light which he had allegedly earlier stolen from a property in Anthony Drive. The home owner later confirmed that the light belonged to him.
The suspect was handed over to Hillcrest SAPS at the scene.
Mathios said a second suspect was arrested after he was spotted shoplifting at a business premises in South Coast Road in Mobeni at around 3pm on Saturday. “Staff at the premises arrested the suspect for allegedly stealing chocolates,” Mathios said.
In a separate incident in Old Main Road in Amanzimtoti yesterday, a businessman alerted the company that suspects had been seen trespassing on his business premises at around 9.45am. “Our officer responded to the scene and arrested two suspects as they jumped out of the property. The suspects had attempted to steal two pieces of metal which they had pushed through the fence. The suspects were handed over to members of the Amanzimtoti SAPS at the scene,” he said.
A suspect was also arrested on Friday in Ternway in Woodhaven, Chatsworth. “An armed response officer arrested a suspect who had attempted to rob two women who were walking along Ternway Road. The suspect was handed over to the Montclair police,” Mathios said
