Morningside robbers crash car dodging bullets from pursuing motorist

Shots were fired at Morningside robbers as a motorist chased a gang of armed men along Trematon Drive last night leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said three suspects driving a Chevrolet Aveo, stopped and held up a pedestrian at gunpoint on the corner of Peter Mokaba Road and Ferndale Road at around 7.50pm. “The suspects pulled up along the road next to the pedestrian and robbed her of her cellphone before fleeing the scene. A motorist gave chase and fired several shots in the direction of the suspects who then crashed their vehicle in Trematon Drive,” Mathios said.
“They jumped out of their vehicle and started running away. One of our local armed response officers saw the suspects running away from the crashed vehicle and managed to arrest one of the men and take him back to the scene of the crime. The other two suspects still remain at large,” Mathios said.

Another four suspects were arrested in separate incidents in Overport, Durban, Yellowwood Park and Westville over this past weekend.
Meanwhile, armed robbers stormed into a home in Nunhead Road in Manor Gardens at around 2pm yesterday afternoon.
Mathios said the suspects forced open the driveway gate and the front door and security gate to gain entry into the house. “They held up the resident and his daughter at gunpoint, demanding valuables such as jewellery and the location of the safe. They fled the scene with a television, four cellphones, a laptop, a camera and cash. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
