Armed Response

Blue Security armed response officers, police and neighbourhood watch members arrested four suspects following several incidents of theft reported at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said police arrested two suspects and recovered a stash of stolen goods after they tracked down the suspects in Quality Street on the Bluff on Saturday. The incident occurred at around 11.40am.
“We responded to a report from a client that a suspect had gained entry onto their premises in Treasure Beach Road where copper pipes had been removed from the front wall of the house and from an outside shower room,” Mathios said. “The police found the suspects walking along the road pushing municipal rubbish bins that contained two bags of clothing, six cellphones, a hard drive and a can of coins.”
Mathios said the resident later arrived at the police station and identified one of the suspects. It is unclear at this stage what the suspect did with the stolen copper pipes.
Mathios said a swift response by an armed response officer to a property in Bankhead Road in Mount Vernon led to the arrest of a suspect who was in the process of stealing copper pipes from the premises. The incident occurred at 12.40pm.
“A neighbour who heard loud banging noises coming from the property pressed his panic button and our officer responded to the scene where he arrested one of two suspects who were on the property where they had been busy removing copper pipes from building,” Mathios said.
The suspect was handed over to the Bellair police at the scene of the crime.
In a third incident members of the Westriding Neighbourhood Watch arrested a suspect after four chairs and a tablet were stolen from the verandah of a property in Elizabeth Road at around 7.45pm. “Members of the neighbourhood watch arrested the suspect as he fled the scene on his way to Embo, with one of the stolen chairs in his possession. His accomplice managed to evade arrest,” Mathios said.
The suspect was handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS.
