The 2019 Holiday Guide to Fabulous Food and Marvelous Memories

Believe it or not, it is that time of the year again! The festive season is upon us and hopefully, you are putting that laptop away for the holidays to spend some quality time with your loved ones. That being said, it is not always easy to find time for the fun stuff when you are focussed on shopping for presents and preparing for entertaining hoards of people.
That is why we have put together this holiday guide so you have some fun activities and awesome food to try before you get sucked into the festive rush.

Events!

The weeks leading up to Christmas are usually the busiest and shopping malls are a no-go-zone. This is a good time to do something outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Litchi Orchard is hosting its 14th annual Litchi Picking Festival and it boasts to be a must-taste experience when in KZN. Situated on the Sheffield Beach road just past The Flag Animal Farm, this litchi orchard is pulling out all the stops. From tractor rides to long walks between the trees, while you sweeten your taste buds and eat your body weight in litchis – if you can.
The festival starts around the 14th of December but is dependent on the ripening of the fruit, so keep an eye on their Facebook page for details and remember that bookings are essential.
Alternatively, for those music lovers who are less in touch with nature, and prefer to be indoors and in a comfy chair, this one is for you. The iZulu Theatre, at Sibaya Casino, is hosting a full-scale production as a tribute to the rock band, ABBA. Far from being “just another cover band”, the creators have promised that it will be “ABBAsolutely fABBAulous“. The show runs from the 13th till the 15th of December, so get your tickets now at Computicket.

Food!

Food is the one factor that everyone associates with the festive season and if you aren’t cooking, you’re usually eating. Rather than spending your days steaming up the kitchen (remember that summer in Durban is not conducive to the heat of a stove or oven), why not head out to one of Durban’s amazing restaurants? We have listed a few of the great ones that we think you should try!
Tiger’s Milk – This is one of the newer additions to Suncoast Casino’s revamp and gained the attention of Durbanites in just a few weeks. With amazing food, drinks, and music – it is the perfect hang out spot for a chilled, Friday night.
Strada Cucina – A trendy, Italian street cafe in Umhlanga that has amazing pizzas and great service. Definitely worth a visit if the craving for pizza arises!
Essence Cafe – Known for its creative, rustic decor style and relaxed ambiance. This cafe in Hillcrest is the perfect place to visit on a Sunday afternoon and relax before the week starts.
Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream – This list would not be complete without a little dessert. So, make your way over to this little gem nestled away on Florida Road.
We hope that you have some fabulous food and marvelous memories, trying a few of the places that remind us why “Blue Loves Durban“.
