Glenmore home invasion

Blue Security managing director Henk Van Bemmelen said the gang had held up a family in Archbell Road in Glenmore at 11.45pm on Friday night.
“The men jumped over the gate and held up the resident and his family. They fled with jewellery, two televisions and sets of house and car keys,” Van Bemmelen said. “Fortunately, there were no injuries during the robbery.”
Van Bemmelen said the incident was the latest in a series of home invasions in the wider Glenwood area in recent months and urged residents to be vigilant.
“While residents in Glenmore are now on high alert we would like to urge residents across Glenwood and the Berea to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals or vehicles seen lurking in their streets,” Van Bemmelen said. ”Criminals stake out properties before they strike and reporting anyone seen loitering or peering into properties will help us and the police prevent crimes. If criminals are aware that residents are vigilant they will be more likely to move their activities elsewhere.”
Van Bemmelen urged residents to be especially careful when arriving or leaving their properties as this is a vulnerable point for hijackings and home invasions. “If you notice a car following you or even passing you on the other side of the road, rather drive around the block and call your security company if the suspicious vehicle has not moved on,” Van Bemmelen said.
Van Bemmelen said in another recent incident a resident noticed a car passing him and he then pulled into his driveway. But by the time he had opened the gate the car that had passed him had turned around, stopped outside his property and the occupants held him up and forced him into the house before robbing him and fleeing with his car.
Van Bemmelen added that installing CCTV surveillance cameras in the street could also act as a deterrent and would provide the police with information that could assist with investigations.
