Gang of Glenwood housebreakers spotted by alert eye witness

A gang of balaclava clad armed robbers fled a premises that they had just broken into in Glenwood, empty handed, when an eye witness spotted them and started taking photographs.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the gang had broken a gate padlock to gain entry into the premises at around 5.30am this morning. “A gang of four suspects arrived at the premises in a champagne coloured VW Caddy, cut a padlock on the gate and derailed the gate. An eye witness spotted the suspects on the premises and started taking photographs which scared off the suspects who turned and fled without taking anything from the property,” Mathios said. A bolt cutter was recovered at the back of the property.
Mathios said a gang of armed robbers had also held up a security guard at a business premises in Glenwood at around 5.05am. “Four suspects, who were wearing white balaclavas and gloves, arrived at the premises in a red Toyota Etios, cut the gate padlock and derailed the gate to gain entry,” he said.
“One of the suspects then held up the security guard and forced him to lie on he ground while the rest of the gang attempted to break into the building,” Mathios said. However, he said a staff member happened to be working inside the premises and the gang turned and fled empty handed when they realised there was someone in the building. No injuries were reported.
In an earlier armed robbery yesterday morning three armed suspects held up a security guard at a business premises in Westmead. The incident occurred at around 5.42am. “The suspects fled the scene with computers,” he said. Mathios advised business owners to install anti gate-crashing kits which provide an early warning system if anyone tampers with the driveway gate. “The anti-gatecrashing kit is linked to the business alarm system and will sound the alarm if anyone attempts to tamper with the gate to derail it,” he said.
