Armed Response

A theft suspect’s housebreaking spree in Glenwood came to an abrupt halt, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after a Blue Security armed response officer caught the suspect in possession of stolen items and handed him over to SAPS to process the arrest.
“The alarm was raised by a Glenwood resident who had first been a victim of attempted theft, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The suspect had forced open a sliding door and used a pool pole to try to fish out a laptop from the office, but failed,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The strategic positioning of the victim’s home meant that suspect’s movements were observable as he continued down a nearby road. The victim’s observations were relayed to the Blue Security armed response officer who arrived at the scene and he reacted immediately to track down the suspect,” he said.
“After the failed theft attempt occurred on this property, the witness had seen the suspect breaking into the garage of a home about 100 metres away and removing small items of furniture from the premises. The Blue Security unit set off in pursuit of the suspect where he had last been seen. The man was soon spotted running through a nearby park carrying various items on his shoulder,” he said.
“The suspect was chased and, finally, apprehended by the Blue Security officer on Gale Street still with the stolen items in his possession,” he said.
“Umbilo SAPS attended the scene in Glenwood, then the arrest was made and a case opened. The Glenwood resident (where the second housebreaking occurred) was contacted and advised to proceed to Umbilo SAPS to claim the stolen items,” he said.
