Happily Housebound: Taking You Back to the Good Ol’ Days

With the way the world is going and how things are speeding up, we find it harder and harder to spend quality time with family. Parents are working and running errands and kids are out with friends or glued to some sort of communication device! It makes it difficult, or even impossible to build meaningful relationships with the ones we love. This is why we want to take you back to the good ol’ days of movie nights and board games that you can experience with your families this Easter!

1. Take some leave

It’s always a bummer when the kids get to stay in bed and parents have to get dressed and go into the office. Well, why not take some leave to spend more time with the kids while they are on their Easter break. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family.
Only have a few days of leave left after Christmas? Not to worry, here are a few suggestions so you can maximise your Easter holidays, with the minimum amount of leave.

  1. April: Good Friday is on the 10th of April and you’ll be getting Family Day (Monday the 13th) off too, giving you a four-day weekend. Take a few days off on either end of those dates and it’ll feel like a real holiday.
  2.  Late April: 28th to the 30th April. Freedom Day (27th of April) falls on a Monday and Worker’s Day is that Friday. By requesting a meagre three days leave in between you score a whole 9 days off!

2. Embrace the television

Rather than fighting your kids on watching TV, ask them to pick a movie that brings back the most nostalgic childhood memories, and parents, you do the same. This will definitely give you something to talk about afterward, even if it is just making fun of the way that CGI was done back in the 70’s.
Alternatively, you could take turns to choose a movie from one person’s watchlist on Netflix or Showmax. That could be really interesting!

3. Play some games

Dust those old board games off the shelf and find one that all of you would enjoy. Sometimes it just means finding the right one for all of you. Or, you could relive the modern version of button mashing at the arcade, with a PlayStation 4. The kids will love the effort, even if you lose every game.
