The Highland Gathering is around the corner! Get your Scottish accent on, put on your kilts, rent a bag pipe do anything your heart desires to get into the spirit.
If you have been to the Highland Gathering before you would know that everything that I just mentioned is not a prerequisite to join on the day, but it would definitely add to the fun factor and atmosphere!
Let’s be honest, who wants to spend the weekend at home doing the same-old-same-old when you could be outside in the sun enjoying:

Every year about 24 pipe bands and approximately 100 dancers from around the country participate in this well-known event.
The Hutchinson Park field is filled with over 100 market stalls to keep your senses buzzing and if you didn’t think Easter was enough to make your belly bulge, feast and indulge on the endless amounts of yum and fun all day long.
What many aren’t aware of is the philanthropic charity group, The Amanzimtoti Lions Club that takes on the task of organising it all and the heritage behind how it all began.
Back in 1963 when the Amanzimtoti area was mostly farming units, the first South Coast Highland Gathering was held as part of a fundraising event for Umbogintwini Primary School. The event is reputedly the largest of its specific type in the Southern Hemisphere and enjoys attendances exceeding 10,000 most years.
In 1976 the Amanzimtoti Lions became involved and the event moved to its current venue at Hutchinson Park. Then, later in 1990 the Lions decided to take full responsibility for planning and organising the event.
The highland gathering is a non-profit event and proceeds are ploughed back into funding local development activities and charity organizations.
