“Units were looking for a battery thief who had been hitting the area hard. While driving along Abelia Road a Tactical Officer observed a man trying to remove a gate battery from a home in the neighbourhood. When the suspect saw the Blue Security unit he began to quickly walk away from the premises. Luckily the reaction officer was able to stop him for questioning,” said the Highway Tactical Ambassador.
“The suspect admitted that he was guilty of being responsible for the removal of a number of gate batteries in the Kloof, Everton, and Gillitts areas recently. He was then arrested and is being detained at Pinetown SAPS while further investigations are carried out in the various cases in question,” he said.
“Blue Security also handed over vital CCTV video and photographic evidence to SAPS linking the suspect to multiple instances of gate-battery theft in the area,” he said.
The arrest is an important breakthrough in the number of such thefts which have occurred recently in Kloof, Everton, and Gillitts.
