Another two successes in the bag for Highway Tactical
A Blue Security Highway tactical team member recovered a stash of stolen copper pipes after chasing a suspect in Waterfall yesterday afternoon, in one of two recent successes.

Blue Security tactical community ambassador for the Highway area, Russel Lawson, said that his partner Sbu Mchunu, Tactical Community Officer, had acted on information posted on the community’s local neighbourhood watch social media group. The goods were recovered at around 2.40pm.
“When the information about the theft was picked up via the community neighbourhood watch, Sbu obtained a description of the suspect and went in search of him in the area. He spotted the suspect in Link Road and gave chase. The suspect then headed in the direction of the taxi rank and he chased him through the taxi rank into Brackenhill Road near Watercrest Mall,” Lawson said.
“The suspect ran along Brackenhill Road and towards some thick bush, dropping a stash of stolen copper pipes as he fled to evade arrest. Our officer gave chase but eventually lost the suspect in the bush,” he said. A total of 17 copper pipes and a pair of pliers was recovered and handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS.
Vehicle recovered in Molweni.
Lawson said the firm’s tactical team and Hillcrest SAPS task team had also recovered a stolen vehicle in Molweni on Friday afternoon.
“We went to Molweni with members of the SAPS task team where we traced and recovered the stolen vehicle. The police investigation into the theft is ongoing,” Lawson said. Lawson attributed the tactical team’s recent successes in the Highway area to its strong working relationship with both the Hillcrest police and local neighbourhood watch groups and residents in the area.
“We are committed to fighting crime in the Highway area, working closely with neighbourhood watch groups and the police. We urge all residents in the area to be diligent about reporting all forms of crime, including petty crime, so that we can continue to remove suspects from the neighbourhood before their misdemeanours escalate into more serious and violent crimes which research shows can happen over time,” he said.
