Highway Tactical Team Detain Evasive Suspects After High-Speed Chase
Two theft suspects were successfully detained by the Blue Security Highway Tactical Team on Wednesday afternoon, after a high-speed car chase and pursuit on foot.
“The successful arrest occurred after an alert had been received at about 1pm on Wednesday. Nearby CCTV cameras had picked up the presence of a suspicious vehicle in the area,” said the Blue Security Highway Tactical Team Ambassador.
“The Blue Security Highway Tactical Team immediately raced to the location where the vehicle had last been spotted, by the cameras, and a search got underway through the suburbs. While the intensive patrol was underway information was received that the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device and monitored by a tracking company who forwarded coordinates of the vehicle’s location,” he said.
“The Tactical Team then focused their efforts on the area between Embo and West Riding where they successfully located the suspect vehicle. When the vehicle’s occupants realized they had been spotted they accelerated and a short high-speed chase ensued. This was followed, a short while later, by the driver and passengers throwing themselves out of the moving vehicle and fleeing in different directions. The Tactical Team members immediately set off in pursuit on foot down into the valley between Embo and West Riding,” said the Highway Tactical Ambassador.
“Two of the suspects were unsuccessful in their attempt to get away from the Blue Security Highway Tactical Team members and were apprehended and escorted back to where the getaway vehicle had been abandoned. The suspects were in possession of a replica firearm and a cellphone. Cash, cigarettes, an airtime printing machine, and other items were recovered inside the getaway vehicle,” he said.
“The tracking company had secured the vehicle whilst the foot-chase was underway. The suspects were detained until the arrival of Hillcrest SAPS whereupon they were transported to the police station for further processing,” he said.
