Hijacked vehicle detected by Amanzimtoti ANPR camera

An alert from one of Blue Security’s automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras lead to the swift recovery of a suspected hijacked vehicle, detected travelling in the Amanzimtoti area, yesterday afternoon.
Amanzimtoti tactical ambassador Eugene Engelbrecht said he received the camera alert at around 5.30pm on Wednesday and circulated the vehicle’s registration number on the firm’s security networks. He said that a vehicle with the same registration number had been reported as hijacked in Montclair which was why the camera detected it on the security system database.
“The vehicle was pulled over by the police with support from our armed response officers and the Community Crime Prevention Organisation in Rosslyn Road in Amanzimtoti,” Engelbrecht said. “The vehicle and driver was taken to the Amanzimtoti police station for investigation. Police impounded the vehicle pending further investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage,” he said.
