Armed Response

A Bellair resident’s sons and a friend had a miraculous escape after a hijacker rammed down a driveway gate and drove over one of them on Sunday night.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a friend who had arrived to collect some goods was held up at gunpoint by three suspects who attempted to hijack him of his vehicle. The resident’s sons and another friend were standing inside the Sarnia Road property behind the gate at the time. The incident occurred at around 7.30pm.
“As the hijacker tried to drive off with the vehicle, instead of reversing the car, he drove forward and rammed down the gate, which collapsed on the resident’s son’s friend and also injured his sons. The car also then crashed into the back of a stationary vehicle that was parked in the driveway,” he said. “In the pandemonium the resident and his friend managed to apprehend one of the suspects, but the other two fled the scene. A gun which had been damaged during the incident was recovered at the scene.”
Jackson said Netcare 911 paramedics attended the scene and transported the three injured victims to hospital, while provincial ambulance services treated the alleged hijacker at the scene before taking him to a nearby hospital.
Bellair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
