Armed Response

A Berea resident and his friend were lucky to escape a nightmare ride with hijackers unharmed on Wednesday night.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said hijackers had pounced on the resident as he opened the gate to drive out of a property in Oakleigh Drive at around 9.20pm.
“Five hijackers driving a black BMW stopped outside the property and waited for him to open the gate before hijacking him. The gang took the resident and his friend with them in the vehicle,” he said. “Both victims were eventually dropped off unharmed, one at a petrol station and the other in KwaMashu, where police picked them up and brought them home.”
Jackson advised residents to be vigilant when arriving and leaving home as driveways are hotspots for hijackings especially early in the morning and in the evening.
“Before opening the gate, always check the road to make sure there are no suspicious vehicles or loiterers near your property. And when you arrive home park parallel to the pavement while you wait for the gate to open so that you can drive off quickly if anyone approaches your vehicle,” he said.
This was the second such incident reported recently, when a Shallcross resident was abducted by armed hijackers last week.
