Hijackers target two Westville North homes within minutes

Westville North residents were lucky to escape two hijacking incidents unharmed at the weekend.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a gang of four hijackers had targeted a resident in Matapan Drive just before 11pm on Saturday night and just six minutes later hijackers struck another victim in Callender Road.
“Four armed hijackers held up the resident at gunpoint, as he was parking his car in the garage. They told him not to panic and that everything would be fine,” he said. “They robbed him of his wallet and cellphone and sped off in his vehicle which was later recovered in Claremont.” Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson said six minutes later a gang of four hijackers held up a resident in Callender Road. “They held up the resident as he was pulling into his driveway and sped off in his car,” he said. “It is unclear at this stage whether there is any connection between the gangs that committed these crimes.”
Jackson advised motorists to be vigilant when arriving home and leaving for work as most hijackings occur in driveways in the morning and evening. “Check for any vehicles lurking near the entrance before you turn in and keep your car parallel to the gate so that you can’t be blocked in and can drive of easily if you notice anything suspicious.”
