iDare2Care City Sleepover

The homeless are opening their homes to us.

Most of us are quick to roll up our car windows and judge the homeless children when they approach our cars and pretend that we do not notice them. Do you know how it feels to sleep outside, cold and hungry? Can we really judge them if we do not understand their circumstances?

I Care, together with the Denis Hurley Centre and Ethekweni Municipality, are hosting the second iDare2Care City Sleepover. I Care and Denis Hurley are non-profit organisations that look after the needs of the homeless and vulnerable. This event is intended to raise awareness and so that people understand the circumstances of the homeless in our beautiful city.

The Dare2Care sleepover will take place outside the Durban City Hall area on Friday 20 May 2016. Participants will be expected to spend the whole night, to show unity and support for our homeless citizens, while experiencing first-hand what they are going through on a daily basis. This is a life changing opportunity to make friends, share a meal and possibly influence each other’s outlook on life.

Blue Security will have dedicated vehicles to ensure everyone is safe and SAPS will also patrol the area. All you need to bring is a blanket / sleeping bag, pillow, something to drink, warm jackets, playing cards, guitar and a disposable simple meal if possible enough to share with a homeless person.

The idea around this whole project is that people challenge each other to sleep outside and sponsor R100 for each dare. All proceeds will be split between I Care and the Denis Hurley Centre to help them provide a safe & sustainable life to the homeless children of Durban.
