Armed Response

A Gillitts home owner was injured during a confrontation with a panga-wielding intruder in his home, in the early hours of this morning.
Blue Security Tactical Ambassador, Russel Lawson, said armed response offers responded to a panic alarm at the property just after 4am. “At least one suspect had gained entry onto the premises by jumping over a back wall. He then gained entry into the home where he was confronted by the residents,” Lawson said.
“A scuffle broke out between one of the residents and the suspect. The suspect hit the resident on his head with the panga and fled the scene in a panic, jumping through and shattering a window pane as he made his hasty getaway,” Lawson said.

“Rescue Care Paramedics attended the scene of the crime and transported the resident to hospital for further medical attention. Apart from the blow to his head he had also sustained scratch wounds during the scuffle,” he said. Lawson said it was unclear whether there were any other suspects on the property during the housebreaking. “A flat screen television and an Xbox console were reported stolen. Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
In a separate incident in Chatsworth in the early hours of this morning an unknown number of suspects gained entry into a resident’s property and stole the tyres and rims from his vehicle. “The resident was awoken in the early hours of the morning by the sound of the suspects outside. The suspects managed to remove all four tyres and rims from his vehicle which they had propped up on bricks,” Lawson said.
Lawson advised homeowners to ensure external beams are activated at night for an early warning system should intruders attempt to enter the property.
