Intruder Flees from Brave Homeowner: Tactical Track & Detain Suspect

Constant patrolling by Blue Security in the Highway area led to the successful arrest of a housebreaking suspect on Monday morning.
“The alert went out just before 7 am that a resident in the Manors area of Pinetown had confronted an intruder who had entered his property,” explained the Blue Security Highway Tactical Ambassador.
“The suspect had entered the property and was trying to move the CCTV cameras in order to evade detection. His movements alerted the homeowner who, on spotting him, went around the back of the house to confront and attempt to apprehend him,” the ambassador said.
“An altercation ensued between the suspect and the homeowner and the suspect ran away. The resident (a non-client) immediately circulated the information of the incident on the neighbourhood watch network,” he said.
“By the time Blue Security had been alerted to the incident and arrived at the scene the suspect had been wall-jumping between properties in an effort to getaway. In order to obtain a description of the suspect Blue Security retrieved CCTV footage from the homeowner, circulated the information and instituted a search for the suspect,” he said.
“A description of the suspect was distributed on the neighbourhood network and reports were received of sightings in adjacent roads. Blue Security continued patrolling the area all the while keeping a sharp lookout for the suspect,” he said.
“The vigilance paid off as a member of the Blue Security Highway Tactical Team spotted the suspect some three to four hours later in the Padfield area. The Tactical Team member immediately detained the suspect and handed him over to SAPS Hillcrest,” he said.
“Information later came to light that the wall-jumper had also broken into another property nearby by gaining access through the roof. He had entered the house, rifled through drawers and removed jewellery,” he said. “The scene indicated that the suspect had been about to load the items into a bag when he was disturbed and ran away. It was then that he proceeded to the property where he was detected interfering with the CCTV camera,” he said.

In a separate incident on Sunday an armed intruder, who had earlier held up a family in their Sydenham home, was successfully apprehended by Blue Security with the assistance of the community from a nearby informal settlement.
“The incident occurred after an armed suspect had entered a home in Sydenham on Sunday afternoon and attempted to rob the residents at gunpoint,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“As the suspect fled the property he fired approximately ten shots before throwing the firearm away,” Mathios said.
“Some of the local community from the nearby Lacey Road informal settlement assisted Blue Security armed response officers in the pursuit of the suspect, who was successfully apprehended and detained,” he said.
“The suspect was injured during a confrontation with community members as he was being apprehended and also sustained a gunshot wound,” he said. “The dog unit was also summoned to the scene in an attempt to locate the missing firearm which the suspect had disposed of whilst trying to flee,” he said. “Nothing was stolen during the incident which is currently under investigation,” he said.
