Joint Effort Leads to Vehicle Theft Syndicate Crackdown

Incident: Vehicle Theft Syndicate Crackdown

The Bayview and Chatsworth areas have been repeatedly targeted by vehicle theft and hijackings. In recent incidents, a grey VW Polo was stolen from Bayview on 18 February 2025, followed by an attempted theft of a Toyota RunX in Chatsworth the next day.

In response, Blue Security’s Tactical and Armed Response teams collaborated with SAPS DPCI, supported by another security company’s K9 unit, to gather intelligence on the syndicate behind these crimes. Their investigation led them to Montclair and later to Lamontville.

As the team approached a targeted house in Lamontville, a grey Polo suddenly sped away, crashing a short distance from the property. The suspects fled into surrounding houses.

SAPS Umlazi K9 and Metro Police arrived to assist, securing the suspect’s residence, where a thorough search uncovered multiple vehicle-breaking tools and evidence linked to vehicle theft.

The crashed vehicle was confirmed to be the one stolen in Bayview and was handed over to Lamontville SAPS for processing.

Investigations into related incidents are ongoing. We commend SAPS DPCI, SAPS Umlazi K9, Metro K9, and all security role players involved for their dedication in disrupting criminal activity and protecting our communities.
